Creating a modern, efficient, and scalable access control system doesn't have to be complicated. With Schlage's robust suite of wireless locks, readers, controllers, and ENGAGE™ software, organizations can deploy a flexible solution that works across a variety of openings—without the need for extensive wiring or complex infrastructure.
This article explores how the following key components work together to deliver a comprehensive access control solution:
Schlage NDE/NDEB Wireless Cylindrical Locksets
Schlage MTB15 & MTKB15 Wall-Mount Readers
Schlage CTE Single Door Controller
ENGAGE Gateway
ENGAGE Cloud-Based Software
Electric Strikes, Automatic Door Operators, and Power Supplies
🔒 1. Schlage NDE / NDEB / LE Wireless Locksets
The NDE and NDEB series are wireless, standalone cylindrical locks designed to provide simplified access control on interior doors. One of their major benefits is that they do not require an electric strike—Reducing materials and installation time, saving you money.
Key Features:
Fits standard cylindrical / mortise door prep
Integrated card reader and optional keypad
Supports smart and mobile credentials (BLE, NFC)
Powered by four AA batteries (no external wiring)
Communicates via Bluetooth and/or ENGAGE Gateway
These locks are ideal for office doors, classrooms, and other interior openings where full credentialed access is needed without modifying the frame or installing additional hardware.
🧱 2. Schlage MTB15 / MTKB15 Readers + Electric Strikes + Door Operators

For exterior doors or high-traffic entrances requiring automated operation, Schlage offers MTB15 and MTKB15 (keypad version) wall-mount readers that integrate seamlessly into a more traditional wired access control setup.
How It Works:
The MTB15/MTKB15 readers authenticate credentials (cards, fobs, or mobile).
Once verified, the reader signals an electric strike to release the lock.
If the door has an automatic door operator (ADO), it will open automatically.
In setups without an operator, a Schlage PS902 power supply is used to provide low-voltage power to the reader and electric strike.
Why Use Wall-Mount Readers? These are perfect for building entries, lobbies, or ADA-compliant access points where door automation and reader placement need to be separate from the locking mechanism.
📡 3. Schlage ENGAGE™ Gateway
The ENGAGE Gateway (Optional but often used) is the central hub that enables real-time connectivity between locks/readers and the ENGAGE cloud platform.
Key Functions:
Connects up to 10 devices per gateway
Communicates with locks via Bluetooth, and with the network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet
Pushes updates and credential data to devices
Enables real-time events and remote management
Using gateways reduces the need for manual updates via mobile devices and allows administrators to manage access remotely and efficiently.
🔌 4. Schlage CTE Single Door Controller
The Schlage CTE (Connect to ENGAGE) controller enables integration of MTB series readers into the ENGAGE ecosystem when used with electrified hardware like strikes or maglocks.
System Flow:
Credential is presented at the MTB15 or MTKB15 reader
Reader communicates with the CTE controller
CTE validates credentials via ENGAGE
Upon success, the CTE triggers the electric strike to unlock
Use Case: Ideal for single-door applications requiring online control but using wired locking hardware. It bridges the gap between smart readers and electrified openings in the ENGAGE platform.
🧠 5. ENGAGE Web & Mobile Software
ENGAGE Software (available via web portal and mobile app) is the brain of the system. It provides centralized management for credentials, access schedules, and device settings.
Capabilities:
Add/remove users and mobile credentials
Set schedules, holidays, and access levels
View audit trails and reports
Sync devices wirelessly or through gateways
Integrate with third-party access control platforms (e.g., LenelS2, C•CURE, Open Options)
Whether you’re managing a few doors or scaling to hundreds of devices, ENGAGE simplifies setup and ongoing administration.
Other Compatible Access Control Software Platforms (Optional for larger systems)
Integrates ENGAGE locks with full-featured systems like:
LenelS2 OnGuard
Vanderbilt Security Management System (SMS)
Software House C•CURE 9000
Open Options DNA Fusion
RS2 Access It!
🏗️ Putting It All Together: Sample System Layouts
🔹 Interior Door(s) with NDE Lock(s):
Schlage NDEB lock on door
Managed via ENGAGE app or Gateway
No electric strike or wiring required
🔹 Main Entrance with Wall Reader and ADO:
MTKB15 reader mounted at door
CTE controller wired to electric strike and automatic door operator
(alternatively PS902 power supply to support all components if ADO is not present)
Managed via ENGAGE and connected to Gateway
Schlage's ENGAGE™-enabled ecosystem offers a flexible approach to access control—combining wireless locks, wired readers, and cloud-based management into one cohesive platform. Whether you’re retrofitting interior offices with NDEB locks or securing main entrances with MTB readers and door operators, the system scales easily and on demand as need arises, with reduced complexity that can be managed by in-house maintenance staff.
